James Riely Gordon designed the Post Office. All entries on Commerce Street are labeled without East or West, since the original dividing line moved four blocks west from the river to Main Street between 1969 and 1970. On the back: This picture shows George Saunders section in the "Garner for President" parade held in San Antonio Feb. 22nd. Owing to bad weather, only 150 riders participated, but over 400 had promised to come. Leading the parade as flag bearer is Mike Hastings, next in line are W. T. Johnson, George Sanders, and W. T. "Zack" Miller, who acted as announcer, next in line are Jim Clamp and Bud Custer, next in line are Sal Armstrong and Louis Burell. Miller announced to the throngs of people who lined the streets as follows, "This parade contains Trail Drivers, Cowboys, Rangers, Ex-Rangers, Sheriffs, Ex-Sheriffs, Buffalo Hunters, Freighters, Pony Express Riders, and Indian Fighters, all for Garner for president, who if nominated will surely be elected and bring control of our government back to the masses of common people." Garner likely refers to John Nance Garner, the 32nd Vice President under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. |
